Montecillo - Rioja Gran Reserva

£22.99

This wine comes from selected parcels of bush-trained 40 year old vines grown on poor, sandy textured soils in the Rioja Alta area. The wine is matured in French and American oak barrels (85-15%) for 28 months, followed by at least four years cellaring in bottle before release. Intense ruby red in colour with orange touches on the rim. A complex and expressive nose of ripe red fruit complimented by an elegant oak character and savoury notes of saffron and clove. Velvety tannins envelope the palate, which expresses resinous notes and hints of candied fruit followed long-lasting and persistent finish.

In a very special area for growing the Bodegas Montecillo was established in 1870, making it the third winery to be established in Rioja and the first in Fuenmayor. Fuenmayor is one of the towns with the longest history and tradition in Rioja Alta. Named after the unique landscape, Montecillo (a small hill or hillock), provides the perfect climatic and geological conditions to produce wines of elegance, complexity and balance.
