Montecillo - Rioja Reserva

£19.99

Tempranillo grapes are sourced from 30 year old bush-trained and dry-farmed vines in Rioja Alta and the Mazuelo grapes are grown in the Medrano region, from 50 year old vines. The wine is matured in French and American oak barrels (65% - 35%), 24 months in the case of the Tempranillo and 22 months for the Mazuelo. After blending and bottling, the wine spends at least two years maturing in the bottle prior to release. Deep ruby-hued, the wine is full and rich with flavours of red fruit compote, interwoven by notes of mahogany and savoury spices such as bay leaf. The palate shows grippy yet elegant tannins and a mineral quality that lingers on the finish.

In a very special area for growing the Bodegas Montecillo was established in 1870, making it the third winery to be established in Rioja and the first in Fuenmayor. Fuenmayor is one of the towns with the longest history and tradition in Rioja Alta. Named after the unique landscape, Montecillo (a small hill or hillock), provides the perfect climatic and geological conditions to produce wines of elegance, complexity and balance.
